Sandra Kutas Mucha was born in Buffalo, NY in 1968. She Graduated from the University of North Texas with a BFA in Painting and Drawing, and a BA in Art. Currently working for a major retailer as a Textile Designer, and continues to paint from her travels.
Each summer while growing up she flew to see her father in Buffalo, N.Y. The sensation of peering out of the window, and looking thousands of feet below is what she strives to maintain in her paintings to this day.
She has been known to hire a two-seater plane to fly over local cities and lakes. When she is not flying, Sandra also has taken the elevator to the top of skyscrapers in the surrounding cities. She mentions that she is not afraid of going to these extremes unless she runs out of film or sketching paper. She wants the viewer to turn their head sideways when viewing these uneasy perspectives. It is all apart of depicting the sensation of flying.
Her main influence has been Yvonne Jacquette, but her technique tends to resemble the paintings of Charles Burchfield and Edward Hopper's.
